Eek. You’re here. This means I’m really doing this. But first, allow me to self-deprecate.
What is Special: A Serial Memoir?
Over the last eight years, I’ve written and read aloud 1000s of words of memoir in an in-person workshop led by friend and mentor, Spike Gillespie. Until very recently, there was no title, nary a thread that connected all of these words together.
The thread has finally emerged.
Special is a memoir written by me, Sondra Primeaux. Most of the entries you will read have been vetted and critiqued by a small and supportive group of women, but no proper editor has been employed. There is no outline. The recommended routes that one is encouraged to take when hoping to publish a memoir, like writing a proposal and securing an agent, I’m resisting. As my Granny used to say, shit or get off the pot. So this is my very shitty first draft memoir. Please be gentle.
Special is written from the best of my memory’s ability, which is poor at times. Some names and locations have been changed to protect the innocent and the not so.
In addition to the memoir, Special is also a podcast and sidebar conversations, focusing on creativity, recovery and midlife. The podcast and other special sidebar features, like monthly virtual hangouts and a few other surprises up my sleeve, are for paid subscribers only.
